With a factory in operation since 1922, Lake Shore Electric has long specialized in K-Series Switchboards (UL 891), transfer switches (UL 1008), and current transformer cabinets (UL 414). To introduce the eHouse product, a significant investment was made in a new 110,000-square-foot facility with ample ceiling height and space for manufacturing and assembling eHouses. To maintain vertical integration, advanced metal fabrication equipment was scaled up, including a Mitsubishi ML4020GX-F60(D) 6kW fiber laser capable of processing 14’x6’ sheet metal pieces, operating 24/7 with automation. Additionally, a Mitsubishi Diamond BH18540 Press Brake with an Automatic Tool Changer provides 4 meters of bend length, enabling in-house forming of all eHouse sheet metal parts before powder coating.

Results

As a new entrant to the prefabricated building market, Lake Shore Electric’s noncombustible, bolt-together eHouse design enables delivery in as little as 20 weeks, significantly faster than many competitors. The vertically integrated manufacturing process provides greater control over projects, offering a single point of contact for customers, whether the eHouse contains utility relay racks, low- or medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, or customer-provided materials. The investment has proven its value, with secured orders across utility, commercial, industrial, and generator packaging sectors.
